Review: The Journey

The Journey The Journey by Chariss K. Walker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Katy Barrett has a pretty comfortable life. She and her young daughter, Sammy, live with her parents and she works as a bookkeeper. Although Sammy’s dad died while in Afghanistan, they are still happy and have a nice life. While trying to repair her life after a tragedy, another comes her way in the form of her new boyfriend, Chuck Reeves. He seems like the perfect guy, but it’s a facade that will soon be ripped away leaving Katy and Sammy fearing for their lives.
This book was a quick and intense read. I liked how Ms. Walker really made you feel all the emotions the characters were feeling, I especially enjoyed reading the daughter’s thoughts. Trigger warning for anyone who has suffered abuse, this book may not be for you – or it may help you deal with your own past. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I would have given it 5 but the afterword felt weird and unnecessary also their escape seemed a little dragged out. Overall a highly enjoyable book.
