Five short stories interconnected by women moving on in their lives. Most of these stories are very short and I would have liked for them to go a little more in depth. I think the abruptness of the stories also led to some confusion as there wasn’t enough written to fully develop the stories. I found the most engaging to be the title story, “Gnarled Bones” about a bond between a brother and sister. I also really enjoyed how the title came to be, the line about grief. Again though, I would have liked more. Ms. May shows promise in her premises, but her talent may be better focused with one short story rather than lots of little snippets.
