Review: Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother

Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother
Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother by Segilola Salami
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Yetunde is a young toddler being taught about the world by her Mama. When Mama loses her own mother she tells Yetunde a story to explain a mother’s love. A love that knows no bounds and spans generations. In Mama’s story a Mother must fight to save her young daughter from a horrible fate. Will Iya Labake be able to save her daughter?

A short story that gives you a look into the reverence the Yoruba Tribe from Nigeria have for mothers. It can be read an enjoyed by the young and old alike. I would even suggest that you could read as a bed time story with your little ones, just like Yetunde’s Mama did. While there were a few typos I do not think this detracted from the story at all.

I would give this story a 3 out of 5 stars. The ONLY reason it didn’t get a 4 is because of the typos. If you enjoy easy reading but like learning about different cultures this the book for you!
